This is Nora Aunor's Decade, and she has earned the moniker "SUPERSTAR" as a result of the box office success of her films and the millions of Filipinos who idolize her. She proceeded to star in films with her love-team, Tirso Cruz III, that destroyed box office records every now and again. Among the films in which they starred together, "Guy and Pip" is the most memorable. The film premiered as part of the Manila Film Festival on June 20, 1971. The film was so popular that it stayed in theaters for six months and was seen by over four million Filipinos. In 1971, the film set an all-time box office record with a gross of more than 8 million pesos. When ticket prices were adjusted for inflation, the film remained the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time.

Nora Aunor's transformation from teenage Idol to serious actor took place in the 1970s. In 1971, she was nominated for her first acting award by the Citizens Council for Mass Media (CCMM) for the film "Nasaan ka Inay?" For "And God Smiled at Me," she received her first Best Actress Award from the Quezon City Film Festival in 1972, as well as her first FAMAS nomination for "Gift of Love."

She started making quality films like "Paruparong Itim, Fe Ezperanza Cardidad, Banaue, Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos, Minsay's Isang Gamu-gamo, Atsay, Ikaw ay Akin, and Ina ka ng Ina mo" and others during this decade. In 1973, she founded her own film production firm, "NV Productions."
