         As the new millennium began, Nora Aunor’s career saw a shift. She began making fewer films than in the past, but each project she chose was a testament to her unwavering commitment to quality over quantity. These films garnered critical acclaim both in the Philippines and internationally, reflecting her continued dominance as one of the country’s finest actresses.

        Her final film before an eight-year hiatus from Philippine showbiz was Naglalayag in 2004. The film earned her a third International Best Actress Award, this time at the Brussels Film Festival, solidifying her place on the global stage.

   During her absence from Philippine cinema, Aunor made two independent films in 2010 while based in the United States. Her talent did not go unnoticed; she was named one of the "10 Best Asian Actresses of the Decade" by the prestigious Green Planet Movie Awards in Hollywood, an honor that further solidified her legendary status.

        In 2011, after nearly eight years away, Nora Aunor made a triumphant return to the Philippines, gracing the silver screen with powerful performances. Among her notable films was Thy Womb, which earned her multiple nominations abroad and four International Best Actress Awards from festivals in Venice, Brisbane, Hong Kong, and Sakhalin. Her portrayal of a woman grappling with infertility was hailed as one of the most poignant performances of her career.

     In recognition of her immense contributions to Philippine cinema and culture, Aunor received the Gawad Plaridel Award from the University of the Philippines in 2014. The following year, she was honored with the Gusi Peace Prize, and in 2015, she was conferred the Gawad CCP para sa Sining, a testament to her enduring legacy in the arts.

       In 2018, Nora Aunor reached the pinnacle of her artistic journey when she was named National Artist for Film by President Rodrigo Duterte. The announcement was met with widespread acclaim, acknowledging Aunor’s immense contributions to Philippine cinema and culture. She was recognized not only for her unparalleled talent but also for her perseverance, integrity, and tireless dedication to her craft. Her National Artist award cemented her place in the pantheon of Philippine arts, honoring her as a trailblazer whose influence would resonate for generations to come.

 

         Nora Aunor's legacy, built upon decades of transformative performances, remains a beacon of excellence in Philippine cinema. She is a living testament to the power of passion, artistry, and resilience. As National Artist, she has truly become a treasure of Philippine culture, her influence felt far beyond the screen, inspiring countless generations of artists and audiences alike.
